A nutraceutical for occasional dry eye and irritation.
EyePromise EZ Tears is a daily nutraceutical to help people with occasional dry eye produce more natural tears with a greater level of lubrication to relieve associated eye discomfort and irritation.
EyePromise EZ Tears is made from pure, high-potent triglyceride (TG) Omega-3 concentrates obtained from ultra-refined, GMO-free fish oil. Additionally, the fish oil used in EZ Tears:
- Undergoes as patented purification process to eliminate heavy metals and other contaminants.
- Meets certification criteria for sustainability.
- Is verified through third party analysis for quality assurance.
- Has extremely low oxidation parameters, resulting in a superior sensory profile.
- - Is 100% traceable, processed at a pharmaceutical-grade facility located adjacent to the world’s largest fishery.
Omega-3 (TG) – 1,100 mg, EPA/DHA 590 mg/440 mg Fatty acids from fish are vital and lacking in the typical diet; significant structural components of tissue cell membranes throughout the body; DHA is rich in the brain and retina and supports healthy vision.
Vitamin A (as Retinyl Palmitate) – 1,000 IU Fat soluble vitamin (absorbed by the body with the help of fats) for corneal surface health; mucosal, conjunctival, Meibomian and lacrimal gland health;
major importance in the mucous layer of tear production.
Vitamin D3 (as Cholecalciferol) – 2,000 IU Fat soluble vitamin deficient in the American diet; supports immune health, joint health, muscle health, and more.
Vitamin E (as d-Alpha Tocopherol) – 60 IU Fat soluble vitamin helps support eye health by protecting Omega-3 fatty acid formulas from compounds found in a healthy diet.
Evening Primrose Oil (100 mg) With GLA (gamma-linoleic acid) – shown to favorably affect symptoms of occasional dry eye.
Turmeric Root Extract (50 mg) Includes curcumin and is important to support the health of the ocular surface.
Green Tea Leaf Extract (50 mg) Provides antioxidant effects in ocular tissues to support eye health.
Mixed Tocotrienols/Tocopherols (20 mg) Important for reducing the effect of compounds that can contribute to occasional dry eye.
Other Ingredients: Gelatin, glycerin, yellow beeswax, purified water, soy lecithin, organic extra virgin olive oil, canola oil, annatto, corn oil, titanium dioxide, natural orange oil flavor.
Yeast/gluten free. Contains soy & fish (anchovy). May contain citrus.
What are the most important issues related to Omega-3s?
EyePromise EZ Tears, an occasional dry eye nutraceutical formula, contains 9 anti-inflammatory nutrients that favorably affect systemic and ocular surface inflammation. One of these, and the most prevalent in the EZ Tears formulation, is Omega-3 fish oil. In this document, we shall review 5 key issues to consider related to fish oil (Omega-3s) in an occasional dry eye nutraceutical.
- EPA/DHA Ratio
With DHA being a major component of the retina and most important precursor of the anti-inflammatories, it is reasonable to assume DHA is the most critical fatty acid. It is also noteworthy that high DHA content fish oils are more expensive. EZ Tears contains 1 gram (1,000 mg) of combined EPA/DHA (590/440 mg) per daily dose, and the level of DHA is significantly greater than most fish oils in the market.
- Concentration, Dose, Size and # of Capsules
Instructing a patient to “take fish oil” without clarification or instruction around total Omega-3 or EPA/DHA content may lead the patient to a retail shelf where they encounter a confusing array of products. Typical retail shelf fish oil products contain low levels of EPA/DHA, and particularly, a low amount of DHA. What appears to be a great “value” may not be a bargain. These products are usually 30% Omega containing products; therefore, the patient must take 4 to 6 large softgels daily to receive the same EPA/DHA dose in 2 EZ Tears softgels.
EZ Tears contains a 70% triglyceride (TG) form of fish oil that provides more than 1 gram of EPA/DHA in 2 capsules per daily dose. It is known that patient compliance decreases when the number and size of softgels increase. Though optimum daily fish oil/Omega 3 dose determination awaits major intervention studies, many ECPs recommend 1 to 3 grams of fish oil per day without consideration of the number of softgels or total EPA/DHA consumed.
We hope this document has adequately clarified the key considerations in selecting a quality Omega-3 nutraceutical.
EZ Tears is much more than a high-quality Omega 3 fish oil, as there are 8 additional anti-inflammatory ingredients that help resolve occasional dry eye symptoms quickly from the inside out.
